Aloha! The warmer days are coming to California at last, and with them comes the season for sweet Hawaiian music and hula. We'll be bringing the warmth of Aloha back to Santa Barbara this month, at Chase Palm Park with our beautiful dancers, Liana and Rika. Going strong and steady are the various jazz combos, and the tropical concoction (Casey Jones) of steel drums and electric violin playing Calypso, Hawaiian, Bossa Novas and Reggae. So many interesting flavors of music are finding a place on our event menus - we recently played a two part party, the first half was Country and Irish, and the second half was Hawaiian! I don't know who enjoyed it more - us or them. Sean switched from upright bass to steel guitar, Steve between guitar and ukulele, and I grabbed whatever instrument seemed handy at the time - we had several guest ukulele players joining us, too! I had a real special treat playing with Teresa Russell on Friday - we found ways of playing songs and with one another that were distinct and unique, making songs that have been old favorites for thirty years or so seem brand new. Pachelbel's Canon in D will never be the same again. Carl and I played together again at Fess Parker's Doubletree Hotel for the fundraiser for CASA, and it was heavenly.
